Cool and relaxing, amethyst is a purple variety of quartz crystal. It aids in spiritual quests and wearing it helps promote meditation, peace, tranquility and oneness with your spiritual goals. In ancient times it was said to be "proof against poison". We now know that amethyst is a "negative ion", which attracts poisonous "positive ions" to it, thus clearing the air around the wearer and helping to make it more breathable. Amethyst is also said to be a stone of sobriety, and can help the wearer become free of addictive tendencies.  It symbolizes healing, purification, and spiritual power. It can be a protection stone, and is believed to aid intuition and insight. Many people believe it aids in divination, and will sometimes keep a piece of amethyst with rune sets, decks, and other divination tools.  Amethyst is a very good, versatile healing stone. It can be used to heal a wide range of ailments, and works well with almost every major system in the body. Amethyst is good at focusing energy. Aventurine

Enhances creativity, imagination, independence, prosperity, career success, calmness and balance. It helps us to see alternatives and potentials. Heals emotional pain, fear and imbalance by dissolving blocks in the heart Chakra. Historically also draws out heat of fevers, inflammation, nervous system stress. In your bath water, a soft, soothing stone for general healing. Balances masculine and feminine energies. Creativity, leadership, and fun. Assists one in making the "right" decisions. Protects and helps heal the heart, lungs, and adrenals.

A stone associated with courage, abundance, purification and good fortune. Helps one to accept change and overcome anxiety, depression and melancholy. Renews relationships and love life. Related to moonstone, this gray feldspar exhibits a display of spectral colors in flares of blue, red and gold. Labradorite helps one understand the destiny they have chosen in this lifetime. This is a dense stone of light and darker green whorls and striations. It has a grounding earthy energy. Malachite can be used in healing work and in opening the heart chakra. It enhances fidelity, practicality and nurturing and aids the wearer on their journey of evolution. Malachite symbolizes physical protection. It was often used to ensure fidelity in relationships and was believed to bring restful sleep. Malachite is seen to be both soothing and energizing. Malachite often represents Nature. It is very good at physical protection and is sometimes referred to as a "stone of warding" due to its ability to keep the wearer safe. Malachite can bring balance and peace. It holds energy very well, and is sometimes referred to as a "magical battery". It can be used to give an extra boost of power to rituals or spells.

Increases immunity, changes luck, assists in facing buried issues, may be used as a crystal ball for scrying, creativity, used in shamanic ceremonies to remove disorders and transmute energies into white light.

Onyx is often used as a scrying stone due to its color (most commonly black). It is believed to improve concentration and give physical strength and emotional stability. Onyx has the ability to transmute energy to another form; however, it is not always possible to predict the effects of this transmutation. Onyx is good at bringing one back to the middle ground; if you have high energy, it will mellow you, and at low energy it will boost you up. Radiating the white light energy of the Universe, clear quartz crystal can be used in any workings. When in doubt or when lacking the "correct" type of stone, quartz can always substitute. This mineral amplifies, focuses and stores energy and information. It can be used to clear and activate the chakras, for purification, healing, in meditation and trance work, to dispel negativity, enhance and seal the aura and for many other uses. Wearing quartz with the point facing upwards, opens the upper chakras, and facilitates meditative states and psychic awareness, but can leave the wearer feeling somewhat spacey, so it is not recommended for prolonged duration. Wearing it point downwards helps to ground. A double- terminated crystal (one with a point on either end) worn horizontally can help balance left/right brain. Specific types of quartz sometimes have properties in place of or in addition to the qualities listed above. Clear or crystal quartz is a good "general practitioner" stone, able to focus varying types of energy. Rose quartz is good at focusing and amplifying healing energy. It is often used to symbolize love, peace, or happiness, and is believed to stimulate the imagination. Oddly enough, flaws in rose quartz often seem to enhance rather than detract from the healing energies. Lending a soft, healing energy, rose quartz aids the wearer in achieving self-love and in enhancing the love vibration in relationships. Rose quartz brings trust, calm, clarity and harmony, and reduces the feeling of a need for haste. It removes fears and anxiety and reduces stress. It balances the emotions and heals emotional wounds, allowing the user to tap into the knowledge that the Universe is Love. Care is advised when using this stone, however, as it is reported to increase fertility, healing, good feelings, love.

Smokey Quartz, a brownish to smokey gray variety of quartz works to dissolve and release negativity and emotional blockages. Its energy is gentle but sustaining and stabilizing. It clears both the emotions and the mind, helps the wearer to ground, lifts depression, provides clarity and enhances positive energies and attention to the moment.  Smokey quartz is good at focusing manipulative, confusing, or changing energies. It is sometimes seen to be a good luck stone and is believed to protect against negativity.

Rutilated quartz (the mineral rutile encased in quartz) is good at focusing energy that is directed inward. It is a high energy stone and is good at focusing the intellect and mental energy.

Rhodonite

Calms and soothes, helps to promote self-confidence, gracefulness, tact, alternative choices, inner growth, heals old hurts and relationships, find romance.

A powerful and energetic red stone, ruby has been used for many purposes over the centuries. It helps maintain courage, shields and protects the wearer on all levels, and brings lucidity and gentleness of thought and action. Ruby alleviates distress, and confused imaginings and brings the light of the Universe into the darkened recesses of the soul. It helps to cleanse and redirect trapped energy, working on both the heart and root chakras. Ruby is often used to represent Fire. It is a warrior stone, and is believed to confer great strength and bravery. Berserkers often used ruby to invoke even greater fury.

Ruby is a good conductor and amplifier of magical energy, and is a good focus, able to focus all the energy directed at it, and seeming to lose none (a quality nearly unique among stones; a small amount of energy is almost always lost in the focusing process). Also used to bring about a very deep and pure love affair.

Most commonly, sapphire occurs as a deep blue translucent stone. It stimulates the throat and third eye chakras, and assists in calming, healing, communication, mental pursuits, enhancing intuition and in wealth matters.

Blue sapphire was often used in healing, while black sapphire was used for protection and centering. Sapphire was believed to bring peace of mind, and in many cultures was seen as a stone of wisdom and divine favor. It was also seen as a stone of prophecy.

Sapphire is often used to symbolize Water. It is one of the best stones for helping one get in touch with emotions. It can be used to dispel glamours and divine true feelings. It is a good Bardic stone, and is often carried to help boost creativity and inspiration. Sapphire can sometimes be hard to work with, as it often tries to convert other energies to its own. Protection, luck, peace of mind.

Sodalite

Sodalite protects from external negative energy and is a highly grounding stone. If you use computers too much, wear it to shield against damaging effects of the radiation. Sodalite's color symbolizes wisdom and psychic activities. Fosters rational thinking, logic, intelligence, emotional balance, intuition, higher knowledge, clarity, truth and perception. It also soothes and heals the central nervous system. Sodalite clears the mind for deeper and wiser thinking, aids logic along with opening third eye intuition, stabilizes mental processes and aids in the shift from emotional to rational thinking. Use it if you are a person who over reacts emotionally or has panic attacks. Helps to eliminate confusion, change habits and stimulate ones intellect. Physically, it lowers blood pressure and balances the metabolism. Assists in sleep.

These crystals range from yellow to golden-orange and brown. Topaz removes negativity, transforming it to joy and enhances individuality and creativity. Topaz was believed to ease tension headaches and ensure a sound sleep. It was seen as a golden or fire stone, and was used to control angry passions. It has an affinity with certain fire elementals, and fae that bond with fire.

Tourmaline

Comes in various colors and hues. Balances, protects, calms, gives self- confidence and cheerfulness. Useful for meditation. Attracts inspiration, goodwill and friendship. Protects wearer against misfortune and anemia. Prevents lymphatic disease. Grounds high-frequency energies. Black or Green Tourmaline strengthens nervous system, regulates blood pressure. Deflects negative energy, attracts prosperity. Blue Tourmaline cures all throat problems, thyroid and speech impediments. Promotes clear verbal expression, dissolves mental friction, emotional constriction. Carries a high electrical charge and if rubbed briskly one end becomes positive and one negative, the energy can then be directed wherever peaceful energy is required.
