Tarot Decks

It is believed that the first Tarot deck appeared in northern Italy around the early 1400's, but no one is really quite sure. Early tarot decks were costly works of art, hand-painted and decorated with gold leaf. These tarot decks were used for playing a complex game similar to modern bridge by the upper classes. The tarot had the same structure and number of cards as most modern tarot decks, though the names of the trump cards were different. In the late 1500's there is literary mention of the tarot during a trial as a reference to witchcraft. But, it wasn't until the late 1700's that the tarot deck was published specifically to be used for the purpose of divination. In 1896 A. E. Waite, realizing that the Tarot could be used for predicting the future, published the first version of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. The Tarot is best suited for the purpose of connecting to and learning about one's self. Tarot can also clarify past events in order to assist you with the present. By using the Tarot, you can glimpse the future and possibly change your current path to alter the outcome of a particular situation.
