What's New at Ladyhawk's Treasures?

Blessings of Imbolc to all!  The wheel has turned once again, bringing us closer to the return of the light and eventually to spring.  We celebrate the beginning of another new year.  Imbolc arrives on February 2nd!  At Ladyhawk's Treasures, the new year also brings many beautiful new items.  In particular, we have just added several new jewelry pieces that we hope you will love.  Shown below are just a few.  Visit our website to see all of our new items!

The Legend of the Holy Wells of the Emerald Isle!

When I think of Imbolc, I think of its pagan origins which are now celebrated by both Pagans and Christians alike.  For Christians, it is Candlemas that arrives in early February.  The veneration of the sacred spring or holy well is a representation of faith that has survived both time, and spiritual and political change.

I recently read an article written by a native of Ireland who said “I knew of such wells, of course, but they’re like leprechauns, you don’t really believe in them until you see one.”  I felt somewhat the same about these infamous sacred springs until my very good friend Barbara returned from her trip to Whales and Ireland a few years ago.  She went there to visit the country of her ancestors.  She brought back a small green bottle that she had filled with water from a sacred spring and presented it to me as a gift.  It remains one of my most sacred possessions, used only for ritual purposes of utmost importance.  I have thus far only used two drops of it.  Powerful magick!

The Druids used the waters of the holy wells and sacred springs to promote health and well-being.  The Celts knew that these places were powerful and attributed this power to the Otherworld, the spiritual source of everything.  Christians today engage in pilgrimages to the Holy Wells to celebrate St. Brigid’s Day.  St. Brigid was once known by more ancient cultures as the Celtic Goddess Brighde.

It is this type of faith that we carry from the souls of our ancestors into the future through our own children’s belief in magick and their understanding of divinity.  Teach your children well.  These mystical places will forever contain the waters of life and healing, as long as we believe.  So mote it be.

Think Green!

Although our minds may drift to thoughts of spring, we still have quite a few chilly days ahead here in Maryland.  What can we each do to ensure that our homes are prepared for the cold nights to come and save money in the process? Take a look at these:

1. Check/add insulation in your attic to reach a depth of twelve inches.

2. Check ductwork coming from your furnace for leaks or gaps.

3. Change your furnace filter monthly.

4. Caulk or weather-strip around doors and windows to seal out cold air.

5. Add draft-sealers around electric switches and outlets
If you have a fireplace, close the flue damper when it's not in use.

6. Consider insulating your hot water pipes.

Stay Warm!
